EXTENSION STAFF CAUTIONED AGAINST USING GOVERNMENT MOTORCYCLES FOR BODA BODA

The Prime Minister has today handed over five brand new motorcycles to extension staff in the Mubende district in a bid to improve service delivery,

The Right Prime Minister Hon Nabbanja Robinah delivered the motorcycles to extension staff while presiding over the one day Farmers Agricultural Expo organized by the office of the Prime Minister aimed at creating awareness to farmers on the modern farming techniques, marketing, value addition and access to quality and affordable inputs at Kassana play ground, East division, Mubende municipality Mubende district.

“The procurement of these motorcycles has followed a complaint raised by the extension staff who lacked transport means to reach out to the farmers thus challenged during in service delivery. Upon discussion with His Excellency the President of Uganda, he directed that the motorcycles be procured and handed over to extension staff to enable them move out to the communities and deliver the services to the framers. Today I have am handing over the motorcycles to the extension staff. Later on the Ministry Of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries will procure more motorcycles and hand them over to that extension staffs who have not received today” Hon Nabbanja stressed.

Hon Nabbanja cautioned the extension staff against using the motorcycles for personal gains like boda boda services but rather focus on service delivery by training the framers on the best practices through which they can improve on the agricultural produce and animals

Beneficiaries include Sekayiwa Joseph –agricultural officer, Magezi Ben agricultural engineer, Ssebaggala Charles – veterinary officer, Wasswa Peter – veterinary officer and Komuhimbo Teopista –agricultural officer.
Hon Nabbanja noted that 60% of Ugandans are entirely depending on agriculture for livelihood thus government has now invested up to one trillion 500 million shillings in the Parish Development Model through out the country where the farmers can access funds up to one million Uganda shillings and invest in the agriculture to boost their production.

“In 2022 His Excellency the president of Uganda through a letter to the office of the Prime Minister directed that the sensitization about the policy guidelines for agriculture which include the production, multiplication, distribution, certification of seeds and stocking materials, agricultural mechanization, disease control, and irrigation scheme should be emphasized as a move to increase and improve the production in agriculture. It’s on the above basis that the Office of the Prime minister coordinates the government and reach out the people through different forums like the agriculture expo in Mubende district to create awareness on the modern farming techniques, marketing, value addition and access to quality and affordable inputs.” Hon Nabbanja stressed.

Thousands of farmers through out Mubende district turned up for agricultural expo to see and buy the products displayed by the externals and local agro in put dealers, manufacturers, machine and tractor manufacturers, value added products for local farmers and also attended Health camp- screening for TB, malaria testing, cancer screening, HIV testing, safe male circumussion , blood transfusion services.

Government will hold the regional Annual agricultural farmers expo.
