320 LAND TITLES ISSUED OUT TO BENEFICIARIES ON WOMEN'S DAY .

Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Hon Nabakooba Judith has today handed over 320 land titles to beneficiaries.

While presiding over the belated international women's day celebration for Mubende district at kigando sub county head quarters Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Hon Nabakooba Judith has congratulated the beneficiaries upon receiving their titles graduating from kibanja Occupancy to land title holders.

Hon minister noted that this a key NRM election manifesto programme which will help sort out land disputes arising out of multiple interests on pieces of land.

The NRM Government has put in place the Parish Development Model (PDM). Under Pillar number 1 of the PDM, which talks about production, storage, value addition and marketing, the new land lords are expected to their land, which is free of disputes, to undertake commercial agriculture that will get you out of poverty.

The land over which is 958 Mailo land titles has been issued today, formerly comprised land in Buwekula Block 247 plot 24, Mubende District measuring a total of 518 Hectares or 2 square miles.The Land originally belonged to Morris Peter Kagimu Kiwanuka, a son to Benedicto Kiwanuka. Government compensated Morris Peter Kagimu Kiwanuka and transferred the title to Uganda Land Commission in 2017.

The Government also compensated a neighbouring parcel of land here in Kigando comprised in Buwekula Block 247 Plot 21 which was belonging to Kawuki Martin and similar activities of having this land transferred to the beneficiaries are also underway.

For the entire Buganda region, the Government through the Land Fund has acquired over 28,000 Hectares equivalent to 108 Square Miles, and will ensure that this land which was acquired and is now in the names of the Uganda Land Commission is also systematically demarcated and finally transferred to the beneficiaries.

In total, Government has used the Land Fund to acquire 334,458 acres equivalent to 523 Square Miles of land across the entire country as part of Government strategy to stop illegal land evictions.

Today, the total number of certificates prepared for the beneficiaries in Kigando sub county out of the land formerly owned by Morris Peter Kagimu Kiwanuka .

Hon Minister Nabakooba stressed that some beneficiaries have not yet completed the payment stamp duty to enable transfer of the processed titles into their name and this appealed to them to fasten the payment process.

Woman Member of parliament Hon Hope Grania Nakazibwe appreciated the female district councillors, members of the women council and women throughout Mubende district for honoring and turning up the women's day in big numbers.

She thanked the minister for the guidance on the management of land matters which has resulted issuance of land titles purchased under the land fund and later distributed to the residents in Kigando sub county.

she requested the identified beneficiaries to pay off the stamp duty so that they get full ownership of land.

She appealed to the CDO' s to carry on the sensitization and mobilization role of the community to benefit from the various government programs meant to improve on their livelihood.
