RDC HANDS OVER ASSORTED WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE SUPPLIES TO FIFTY SCHOOLS

The Resident District Commissioner has today handed over assorted water, sanitation and hygiene supplies to fifty schools with an aim of improving sanitation and hygiene in schools.

Mrs Byabasaija Rose Mary the Resident District Commissioner Mubende district while officiating the disbursement of the items noted that the available research shows that 80% of the diseases people suffer from are due to poor sanitation and hygiene and these diseases can drastically be eliminated if the practice hand washing is emphasized.

Mrs Byabasaija added that:”Government’s efforts are now targeted towards prevention through purchase of the assorted water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, sensitization/ creating awareness with in the communities about hand washing and use of other bleaching agents.

“She therefore cautioned the head teachers who received the items to use them for their intended goal by demonstrating to the children how to wash the hands which will later on be cascaded to the homes were they come from.

Ms. Namusoke Maria Ag. District Health Officer in charge Environment noted that the entire district received assorted water, sanitation and hygiene supplies which include liquid soap (300pcs of liters),Cleaning mops(100pcs), bleaching jik(500pcs of liters),heavy duty gloves(100pcs), hand held sprayer(110pcs), sanitizer>60%alcohol(150pcs), foot operated hand washing facilities(110pcs).

“These items were procured by the ministry of health and delivered to Mubende district with an aim of improving sanitation and hygiene in schools.” Namusoke added.

The head teachers who received the supplies thanked government for the initiative and promised to use the items as instructed.
