EBOLA OUT BREAK CONFIRMED IN MUBENDE DISTRICT

Officials from the Ministry of health have today confirmed an Ebola outbreak in Mubende district

According to a press statement made by the permanent secretary for ministry of health Dr. Atwine Diana dated 20 September 2022 the ministry of health has notified the entire country that there is an Ebola virus disease outbreak in Mubende district

In this statement the Permanent secretary Dr. Atwine stressed that on the 15 September 2022, one suspected case patient of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever was identified and isolated in Mubende regional referral hospital. The suspect case patient was a 24-year-old who lived in Ngabano village of Madudu sub county in Mubende district. He was a referral from st johns’ medical clinic in East division of Mubende municipality where he had just been referred.

He presented with high grade fever, convulsions, blood-stained vomitus and diarrhea, loss of appetite and pain on swallowing, he also presented with chest pain, dry cough and bleeding in the eyes.

On the 17th September 2022, while in the isolation unit at Mubende regional referral hospital, he developed yellowing eyes, tea colored urine and complained of abdominal pain. The clinical team took a sample from the patient having suspected a Viral Hemorrhagic Fever. The sample was received at Viral Hemorrhagic Fever (VHF) laboratory at Uganda Virus Research Institute on the 18 September 2022 and results releases on the 19th September 2022 confirmed Ebola (Sudan strain) infection

Early in the morning of 19th September 2022, the confirmed index case passed on and the body was still kept at Mubende regional referral hospital mortuary
