MINISTER FOR HEALTH LAUNCHES REGIONAL COVID 19 MASS VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

Minister of State for Health General Duties has today launched an accelerated regional Covid 19 mass vaccination campaign for 7 districts that make up greater Mubende.

The launch has been held at mayor’s gardens and has been presided over by Hanifa Kawooya the Minister of State for Health General Duties.

Minister Kawooya explained that “the Ministry of health has an obligation to ensure that every Ugandan must be vaccinated to ensure that we open up the economy, come January 2022. the people need to embrace vaccination so that the economy can be fully re-opened early next year as promised by President Museveni with a total target 4.8 million people by December 2021.”

Hon Kawooya expressed that “reports received from this region indicated that this region has received a lot of vaccines but take up of the vaccines is still very low with Mubende district alone standing at 38% percent which is too way low below the average take. Therefore, this mass vaccination campaign is aimed increasing on the number of vaccinated people and specifically for Mubende district achieving the target of 270,000 people by the end of December.”

“The Covid mandate states that you must be vaccinated where you want it or not, time will catch up with you. Everyone should take it as a personal obligation that they are vaccinated to save themselves, their loved and neighbors from the deadly corona virus.” Hon Kawooya noted

Hon. Kawooya says that “there will be no more lock down despite the discovery of the new Omicroni a covid 19 variant. The ministry of health is ensuring that all Uganda must be vaccinated against Covid 19 which will provide their bodies with protect against Covid 19 and that even when the new omicron variant penetrates people will be already protected.”

“Government has secured enough vaccines for our district and for people aged 18 years and above I would like to appeal to all of you to come in big numbers and be vaccinated because it is a pathway of opening our schools, economy, social life and places of worship”. Mr. Birungi Abubaker the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mubende said

Mr. Ntambi Micheal Muhereza Lcv chairman Mubende district testified that he is one of the victims who suffered under the first wave after contracting the corona virus and stressed that he would not take chances by letting people hide under the guise that its their right not to get vaccinated.

Mr Ntambi noted that Mubende district has already passed a resolution that all public servants especially teachers and health workers will laid off their duties and later be scrapped off the pay roll system for the deliberately reusing to get vaccinated and no one will be allowed to access offices, worship places and public places without the vaccination cards.

The regional accelerated Covid-19 Mass vaccination Campaign running from 13th – 26th DEC targets all adults over 18 years from 7 Districts that make up greater Mubende which include Mubende, Kasanda, Mityana, Kynakwanzi, Kiboga, Luweero, Nakasongola
