READING INSTRUCTION MATERIALS IN LOCAL LANGUAGE FLAGGED OFF

Ministry of Education and Sports, Mubende Municipal and Mubende District local government leadership have today launched and flagged off the distribution of reading instructional materials in local language in bid to enhance and improve the early grade reading for primary one.

leaders present included Dr cleophas Mugenyi commissioner desk education and sports - Ministry of Education and Sports , Hon Kayonde Issac Secretary for Education and sports, Hon Sekiziyivu Innocent municipal mayor, Mr Ssali Edison Principal Assistant Secretary and Mr Kassimu Balinda senior Education Officer.

While handing over the reading materials to the leaders - Mubende municipal and Mubende District local government , Dr Cleophas Mugenyi Commissioner Desk Education and Sports - Ministry of Education and Sports thanked the team for the efforts put in place to improve the performance of the pupils and further urged the stake holders to pass by laws protecting the children from dropping out of schools.

He also urged the stake holders to hold stakeholder conference immediately after the release of PLE results to analyze the challenges and there after come up with an improvement plan for the results for the academic year 2024.

"School Management committee should support and guide the usage of the books provide by the Reading Association of Uganda. The books should be kept in schools bags not polythene bags."Mr. Mugenyi stressed

Hon Kayonde Issac Secretary for Education and Sports has applauded the district for the recently received PLE results for the entire district.

Hon Kayonde has thanked the Reading Association of Uganda for the initiative of making a reading a habit and skill to improve the literacy levels of pupils.

Mr.Kayonde noted" that School Management committees have a role to play in the improvement of the performance for pupils in schools through monitoring and supervision of the activities being implemented in schools"

Eng. Sekiziyivu Innocent Mubende Municipal mayor noted that teachers need to get out of the comfort zone and perform their roles as per the guidelines. stop the habit of storing the books in boxes yet they are provided for pupils use. Teachers should stop lamenting but rather learn to live with the environment and work for the better.

Mr. Ssali Edison the Principal Assistant Secretary Mubende district has applauded the Reading association of Uganda for the support rendered to the 41 schools. Research has proven that children who start learning in the local language grasp easily thus the need to promote such programs

"Schools management committee should emulate their counterparts at lutete primary school for the initiative of constructing a library for the school.
School Management committees have a major role to play by bridging the gap between the Government and parents to improve on the provision of the education services. Mr. Ssali noted.

Mr.Ssali stressed that "government is committed towards support the Education department to improve the performance of the students."

Mr. Balinda Kassimu the Senior Education Officer noted that Mubende district has today received a total of 3000 books to be distributed to 41 schools , municipal 12 schools are being supported and in mubende district local government 29 schools are being supported by the Reading Association of Uganda.
